Frequently Asked Questions!

Hey all!
This is Nikki, here to share a few FAQ's that we came up with. Hope this helps with any questions you may have. If you have any you would like to add, feel free to leave us a comment!
  • When are the infant, toddler, and preschool classes?
Lapsit (ages 6-18 months) meets Tuesdays @ 9:30
    Toddler Tales (ages 1-3) meets Tuesdays @ 10:30 and Wednesdays @ 9:30
    Storytime (ages 3-5) meets Tuesdays @ 11:30, Wednesdays @ 10:30, and Fridays @ 10.
    Lusic (ages 2-6) meets Thursdays @ 5:30 followed by stories @ 6.
  • How old do you have to be to get a library card?
You can get a library card as young as 1 day old! A child’s card goes from ages birth-12, teen cards go from ages 13-19, and adult cards go from ages 20 and up.  Adults need two pieces of identification with at least one having a photo. Children and teens will need an adult caregiver to sign for their cards as a responsible party.
  • What ages do you cater to?
In the Children's Library, the age range is from birth up to age 12. The teen room caters to ages 13-19.
  • What are your hours? The Children’s Library and Children’s Garden is open Monday through Friday 9am-6:45pm and Saturday 9am-4:45pm.
  • Can we use the Depot/Children’s Garden?
You are more than welcome to visit the Children’s Garden whenever it is open. However, it may not be used for any parties of any kind.  The Depot is open for use as long as it is not currently being used for classes or programs and MUST be approved through Miss Carol first.  However, the Depot cannot be used for meeting where money exchanges hands, birthday parties or the like.  Both the Depot and the Children’s Garden are open the same hours as the Children’s Library and may only be used during those times.
  • I forgot my library card at home, can I still check out books?
Yes, we can look you up by name, phone number, or address!
  • What is Summer Reading?
Summer Reading is our program during the summer. It is generally 4-6 weeks long and we pack it full of all kinds of activities for children! Each year there is a different theme and we try to work the theme into our activities.  Of course, the main goal of Summer Reading is to get children into the library and to READ!  You do not have to pay for anything during Summer Reading.  You do, however, have to register.  But don’t worry, it’s pain free. All you have to do is fill out a small piece of paper telling your child(s) names(s), age(s), and school grade next year. It’s as simple as that!
  • How can I volunteer?
The minimum age to volunteer is 10 years old.  If you would like to volunteer, just ask for the volunteer form in the Children’s Library.  We will be more than happy to give you one.  Once you fill out the form, get it signed by your adult, and turn it in, we will try to get you volunteering with us as soon as possible.  There is a limit of 4 hours to volunteer per week. Summer Reading is the time when we most need volunteers.
  • Can I drop my child off?Children above the age of 7 may be in the library without an adult caregiver. However, any child under the age of 7 should be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.  With that being said, we would like to remind you that this is a public building.
  • Can I check out games? Unfortunately, the games cannot be checked out at this time.
  • How many books am I allowed to check out?The limit of items per card is 50. You are allowed to check out as many books as it takes to get to the limit.  The limit on other types of materials are as follows: audio books-10 titles, CD’s-10 titles, VHS/DVD’s- 5 of each type, and Periodicals/Magazines- 5.
  • Do you have wifi? We do have wifi.
  • I’m looking for (insert item title here), but you don’t have it. Can I request it?Yes, you may request books.  That does not necessarily mean that we will be able to get it. If you have an item you would like to request us to get, you may tell anyone at any of the service desk on any floor and they will take it into consideration.  You may also leave us a comment with as much information as you can as we will try to get it for you!
  • Do you have (insert school’s name here) AR list? No, we do not have a print out of each schools AR lists.  Each school has a different AR list and they are constantly being updated, therefore it would be extremely difficult to print out the hundreds of pages for each school and keep them up to date.  However,  you can access each school’s site through the “Reference” section on our site.  Just click on the “Reference” tab, click on the school system you need, and select the school your child attends.  We will also be glad to help you find any AR books you need!
*Be sure to check out our displays of Fall and Halloween books, it's that time of year again already!*
