There is an Elephant in the Room!!
In Lane Smith's new book "The Big Elephant in the Room" there is something going on between two friends. One friend come in and says "Can we talk about he big elephant in the room?" It all begins there and the another friend keeps trying to guess what the elephant in the room is. "Is the big elephant that I picked you last for soccer? and baseball? and volleyball? and tiddlywinks?" The story keeps going in true Lane Smith fashion with enough humor for even the adults to enjoy his wonderful playfulness with words.
However, being a history buff my FAVORITE Lane Smith book has got to be John, Paul, George & Ben / Lane Smith. Hold on to your drumsticks Ringo... it not THAT John, Paul, and George!! It is a very interesting about five of our founding fathers. It is truly one of the BEST books with a significant amount of true historical data involved on the pages. Hey its never too early to turn toddlers into history buffs!!
Read all of Lane Smith's books... we have several!! Find them at your library!

He Had a Dream
As you may or may not know the Library will be closed Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great leader and a pursuer of civil rights. Instead of using fists, Martin Luther King, Jr. and his followers used words to get their points across. His "I Have a Dream" Speech , I feel, is still one of the most poetic cries for freedom. And his cause is still just, even today.
There is so much to learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. and your library would like to help you with that journey. We have several books, already pulled and waiting for you, about Martin Luther King, Jr. and the rest of the King family in the Children's Library. Come by and check them out.
While you are visiting the library stop in our Orwin Reading Room (Kentucky Room) and see our Kentucky's History in the Civil War exhibit brought to us by the Kentucky Historical Society Museum. The exhibit tells Kentucky's story in the Civil War in 6 parts. The exhibit will be here until January 31st.
As you are learning about the Civil War join Pulaski County in the 150th Anniversary Event Reenactment. The reenactment will be taking place on Saturday, January 21st at 10:00 A.M and at 1:00 P.M and again on Sunday, January 22nd at 10:00 A.M.. The 'Battle of Mill Springs' reenactment will take place in Nancy, which is 9 miles west of Somerset.
Also, don't forget about some of the events that the Library will be having for our little peeps coming up in the next little bit.
Thursday, 26th @ 6:00- American Girl Program: Come join us as we celebrate Ivy (Julie's best friend.) We will be having a craft, some stories, snacks, and a prize. As always, you do NOT have to have a doll to attend.
Monday, January23rd @ 5:30- Tween Program: (For ages 7-12 years) Join us for Cupcakes and More. We will be making and decorating cupcakes and many more things!! Yummy!!
